Welcome to the Cedarcrest Middle School -  First Technical Challenge Blogspot

The 2014-2015 School year has started back up and we are starting out with it.  Soon we will be including information for you to find us if you are interested in:
1) your middle school student becoming involved in a local robotics competition team
2) volunteering for working with programming, engineering, or collaboration to develop these skills in the young people our middle schools serve or
3) investing in our FTC team to help us secure the materials and equipment needed to allow as many team members as possible to pursue learning in a robotics oriented program.

So what is FIRST?  FIRST is a national organization devoted to bringing robotics to youth of various ages, from primary, to middle, to high schools and some college programs.  FIRST organizes teams from surrounding schools to meet together to compete, learn, mentor, and become immersed in the teamwork necessary to review a problem, collaborate on the design of the solution, build the mechanism to solve the problem, and program the systems to carry out the solution.  Young people learn many aspects of design and engineering, in an environment where adults can help guide them to minimize the risk and maximize the opportunity.  Many times FIRST teams use the skills they learn hands on in the team to carry over into their academic and later into their work environments.

For more information about FIRST, please visit the FirstWA.org site, and for more information about the CedarcrestFTC team, please email Rob Hollis or Mike Shreeve.
